JOB SUMMARY:
Intermediate I&E Designer will assist with drafting and design-related work as assigned by the supervisor including field work, layout, transmittals, maintaining files, assembling packages and other duties as required. Provide assistance and training to junior designers and drafters.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Performs project related duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Develop project documents, i.e., Job Notes/Letters of Instruction/Scope of work documents, Bill of Material, Specification Register, Conduit and Cable Schedule, etc.
- Understand, provide layout, design and drafting of wiring diagrams, i.e., electrical schematics, instrument loops, one lines, junction box/marshalling/control panel wiring, as well as installation details, etc.
- Utilize 3D modeling to cut plan drawings and develop the technical information for particular plan types, i.e., grounding, instrument location, cable tray, lighting, etc.
- Utilize Chemic Document Management Procedures and filing system, i.e., Maintains client drawing transmittal records and CAD files. Generates transmittals for return of drawings to clients, etc.
- Understand I&E specifications, administrative and technical practices, client design instructions, flow diagrams (P&IDs), and interpret vendor information.
- Perform field work, take clear pictures of needed equipment, and make detailed field notes. Maintains field notes and field documentation in usable and retrievable form.
- Assist project lead with identification of scope, engineering manhour estimates, proposals, project status reports and lessons learned development.
- Determine when assignments are not in alignment with project scope. Assist project lead with required documentation for change order processing.
- Understand and implement written and verbal instructions from supervisor accurately.
- Complete assigned work correctly, on time and within the estimated man-hours.
- Coordinate and interfaces with clients and other Chemic disciplines to answer questions, resolve conflicts and complete assignments.
- Provide assistance and mentorship to drafters and advises supervisor of training needs
- Demonstrate personal commitment to projects, design team and development of the I&E Department.
- Assist multiple departments with drafting needs.
- Performs additional duties as required and requested.
REQUIREMENTS:
- EDUCATION:
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 1 manual drafting and two AutoCAD classes.
- Classes in an Autocad based 3D modeling program (CADWorx) preferred.
- AAS in Drafting Technology or Technical School certificate is preferred.
- Classes in piping, civil, structural, instrument, and electrical drafting and design are preferred.
- SKILLS:
- Ability to provide layout and design in 2D as well as 3D CAD drafting.
- Ability to understand and explain the basic engineering phases of projects and design package development
- Ability to understand basic and required components within an I&E Design Package by level of detail
- Proficiency in current releases of Microsoft Office, AutoCAD and 3D modeling applications (CADWorx and/or Autoplant), LFM, Navisworks, and other industry related software.
- Familiarity with pressure, level, temperature, flow and analytical design principles.
- Familiarity with conduit, cable and cable tray sizing and specification, voltage drop, HAC, and other electrical design principles.
- Familiarity with industry standards, i.e., NEC, NFPA, ISA, NEMA, etc.
- EXPERIENCE: Five (5) or more years I&E drafting/design experience, preferably in petrochemical/chemical plants and refineries. Prefer some field survey experience.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Approximately 80% office work and 20% work in operating process facilities and other remote field locations. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb ladders and stairs (at least one flight) and sit for extended periods of time at a computer. Fluently expressing and exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
